There will be times that you invest yourself into a student who desperately needs you... and you get burned. Don’t be too discouraged. It happens to everyone. And do not be deterred in your commitment to making a difference. We are planting seeds. We don’t always see the harvest.

We went straight to the source—experienced teachers—and identified 6 strategies for giving effective feedback while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. One more post of a short piece I edited for edutopia.

#ThoughtForTheDay No matter how many times a student tells you they don’t care about school or whether they succeed or not remember that no child wants to be a failure. Some will try & convince u but it’s in those moments when they need u the most. Believe in all kids. #Culturize

My colleagues and their students inspire me! Check out this "Eat Your History Exhibit" completed by our 5th graders. Students created cereal boxes full of information about their black history heroes. ❤ #blackhistorymonth #5thgrade Barack Obama Serena Williams Ruby Bridges

I love the fact that, no matter how bad our “to do list” gets screwed up, no matter how many times the copier breaks, no matter how bad our lesson bombs… we always have the ability to be nice to kids… to make them smile. I love that.

Sometimes, what students need most, is a cheerleader… someone they know is in their corner. Sometimes, that’s what teachers need too.

I was in a restaurant recently & I noticed a staff member giving fist bumps to all of his colleagues as he passed them. That’s a little thing, but the little things add up. Don’t underestimate them. And you never know who’s watching. You never know the extent of your impact.

There will be no high stakes testing this year, and yet all over America educators have continued to teach and inspire their students online. I hope the powers that be realize we do what we do because we love children and not because a test is held over our heads.
