In Britain, fragments of at least 30 stone tabletops have been found. Concentrated in the Southwest, the tables are usually discovered in villas and town sites. Rockbourne is special for drawn circles and sections of circles on top. #FindsFriday #FurnitureFriday #RomanBritain

In #Roman times #Rockbourne mosaic floors were cleaned by sweeping away the general dust and dirt with brooms made out of thin branches. Any food and drink spilled would have been washed way with cold water. #RomanSiteSaturday #RomanBritain #Archaeology #Housework #RomanVilla

The tombstone of Euthenia, who died at the age of 35. The stone was dedicated by Gemellus, described as her 'partner' (contuburnalis) rather than her husband. This form of union, along with their single names, suggests that both Euthenia & Gemellus were enslaved #EpigraphyTuesday

Departed comrade! Thou, redeemed from pain Shall sleep the sleep that kings desire in vain... All pain is fled from thee. And we are weeping in thy stead; Tears for the mourners who are left behind Peace everlasting for the quiet dead. Lucretius, Roman Poet #remembranceday2024

Tears for the mourners who are left behind
Peace everlasting for the quiet dead.
