573 years old today! 🙌 Happy birthday to us. 🎉 On 7 January 1451, Pope Nicholas V issued the Papal Bull, making UofG the fourth oldest university in the UK. Here's to the next 573+! #TeamUofG

In our new paper we show that the way T. cruzi nucleobase transporter 1 (TcrNB1) interacts with substrates is highly conserved with equivalent kinetoplastid carriers, but not the human transporter, aiding design of antikinetoplastid purine antimetabolites. doi.org/10.1016/j.molb…

Our review of the drugs and drug resistance in animal trypanosomiasis is out in IJPDDR (open access). First author is my former PhD student Marzuq Ungogo and we tried to make it comprehensive. Of course plenty of the rich history of the drugs included! doi.org/10.1016/j.ijpd…

Phase II trial of LXE408 against VL has started in Ethiopia. Potential for a new all-oral and less toxic treatment at last. Collaboration between Novartis and Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative. Wishing the trial and all involved every success!

The evidence from polling is clear: there is no support for tightening of visas on the graduate route. The public understand this. Time to stop the senseless self-harm to our economy and to focus on backing our national assets. #GlobalBritain theguardian.com/uk-news/articl…

I am not selling online T shirts, but I do like this meme! Ixodes trumpi, the luna tick. With so many species to choose from, this is one of the most pathogenic parasites yet, causing brain disorders, esp. in the frontal cortex, in large parts of the US population.

We had our goodbye-for-now lunch with Elizabeth Agbo, visiting PhD student from Makurdi, Nigeria. She did excellent work on screening natural compounds from medicinal plants for anti-kinetoplastid activity. Going to yield some fine papers! Part of long work with Prof John Igoli.

Today marks exactly 25 years since I started as a PI at the University of Glasgow with a Wellcome Trust Research Career Development Fellowship to investigate drug transporters in Trypanosoma brucei. I have since expanded a little beyond that topic. Remains an honour to work here.
