I’ll be releasing the State of the Environment report on July 19. The previous govt refused to release it. It tells an alarming story about decline and loss - to protect and rebuild our precious environment, we need to understand the current challenges. theguardian.com/australia-news…

My favourite part of #SouthernOceanLive on abctv so far is Dr. Vanessa Pirotta’s pure, unabated joy at seeing humpback whales up close and personal in Sydney. How good is nature!? 🐋

Great explainer from Graham Readfearn in Guardian Australia about Australian Institute of Marine Science reef report. "There's no question this is good news...(but)We’re on a trajectory to blast past 1.5C & get to 2.6C or 2.7C. So the resilience we see at 1.1C will not continue.”Dr Roger Beeden theguardian.com/environment/20…

The face of a happy gal who has spent most of the weekend underwater trying to convince the giant cuttlefish that she is one of them because she too, can dive without bubbles. I think the cuttlefish bought it. I’m officially a rebreather nerd now.😊🤿

And I went way too hard at the second hand book store at Bendooley Estate. I’m collecting vintage ocean books and my collection is looking fine! 🐠

In the bookshop yesterday I got close to an older man in a face mask who had a walking stick - he literally poked me away with his stick as if to say don’t get too close. Is it acceptable covid etiquette to poke someone with your walking stick?

From me - Great Barrier Reef should be placed on world heritage ‘in danger’ list, UN-backed report says theguardian.com/environment/20…

Drafting the Great Barrier Reef section of the latest IPCC report broke my heart. We need to do all that we can to save all that we can. Extensive future climate change is locked into the system, but it’s never too late to try harder to do more- it all improves the outcome

The Environment Minister said Australia will lobby against an ‘in danger’ listing for the Great Barrier Reef as ‘we’ve dealt with’ major concerns. There are 114 new coal & gas mines in the pipeline across the country. Let’s be clear Labor - that’s the major concern.
