Did an interview with Abby Acone of Q13 TV today on the 45th anniversary of the 1980 MS Helens eruption. We talked about PNSN/USGS monitoring of Cascade volcanoes today: how far we've come ... and the real threat of funding cuts. We need a robust USGS ! fox13seattle.com/news/wa-volcan…

An earthquake swarm began at Mt. Rainier, WA, at 1:29 am PDT on July 8. Map shows current swarm (orange) with all earthquakes located since 2020 (blue). According to @PNSN, hundreds of events have occurred thus far (max M1.7). This is the largest swarm at Mt. Rainier since 2009.

We are seeking an External Engagement Lead for the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network! PNSN is the trusted authority on earthquakes and related topics in the PNW. Help us shape earthquake preparedness, advocacy for resilience, and understanding of earthquakes all across Cascadia.

It's a VERY large earthquake, possibly/probably among the 10 largest ever recorded. A clear subduction megathrust event. And another M>8.5 event with a notable foreshock (the recent M7.4 in same location), like Tohoku 2011. Tsunami warnings/watches should be taken seriously.

'Probably the sixth or seventh largest earthquake we've ever recorded since at least the year 1900' Professor Harold Tobin from the University of Washington in Seattle spoke to #BBCBreakfast after a magnitude 8.8 earthquake hit far-eastern Russia, triggered tsunami warnings

The M8.8 earthquake off Russia's Kamchatka peninsula drew global interest in earthquake and tsunami hazards. Director Harold Tobin responded to numerous media inquiries, with a notable highlight from PRX. Listen now! theworld.org/segments/2025/…

Went on CBS Mornings today to talk about the tsunami and how it all unfolded. They had great questions. cbsnews.com/video/why-a-re…
