Why do some forests go evergreen while others lose their leaves in winter? We show evidence that these forest types present alternative stable states across temperate regions. Led by our brilliant PhD student Yibiao Zou. Thanks to all the coauthors for making this study possible!

I cannot believe what is being published about our research group. In my experience, contrary to the published content, every research group should aspire to be as inclusive and positive as this one.

From my first day in the lab to the moment I graduated as a PhD, working with Thomas Crowther has been an incredible journey. I am deeply grateful for the values he embodies and shares—openness, inclusion, inspiration, and passion. Honestly I wouldn’t be who I am today without him.

I will treasure the warm, supportive and inspiring working environment for my entire life. It was like a dream that so many brilliant people working together in the same lab. I am so proud of having such an experience in my career.
