I worked with the wonderful ⁦Victoria Derbyshire⁩ ⁦Alys Cummings⁩ ⁦Lucie Kon⁩ on this ⁦BBC Panorama⁩ telling the hidden stories of domestic abuse in lockdown. In awe of all the women who spoke out. Tonight, BBC One, 7.30pm bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…

📺 Victoria Derbyshire was 16 when her family left their home -  the place she had witnessed scenes of violence at the hands of her father.  Thirty-five years on, she returns to look at how those living with domestic violence have been impacted by lockdown.

What an extraordinary Panorama on domestic abuse from Victoria Derbyshire. “I have met some women who escaped during lockdown. And that is remarkable. They are remarkable.” In tears at that line. It is absolutely true. Escaping abuse takes strength most people will never know.

1/4 Two years ago WADW wrote an open letter to BAFTA highlighting the inequality of their awards. The TV industry said they’d listened. This year the situation is worse. Women directors are woefully under-represented in the leading factual categories.

For the record, C4 revenue last year was its highest ever & this year it will spend more on content than ever. Some, including Rt Hon Nadine Dorries, have cited a fall in spend in 2020, but this reflects impact of Covid which hit both production + revenue for all commercial broadcasters
