I presented another color pattern geometry example at ICVM 2023 using some of J.E. Randall's juvenile Pomacanthus images (apparently it got tweeted out although I can't find it). Is anyone interested in a proper write-up of this example, e.g. as a blog post?

Seems like sufficient interest, so I will write something up ✅ This turned out to be probably the most overall representative example yet, in that it encompasses pretty much all the common features of the method. So I hope it will be useful!

I FINALLY officially move to Helsinki tomorrow to start my postdoc! 🇫🇮 Nervous, excited, slow on email, etc etc. I'm going to dearly miss my community here, but I can't wait to pick up new skills and ways of thinking. But yeah, you might have to email me twice to get a response🖖

I feel that I should only get to make this joke one time, but also, when I was on the phone with an airline agent, she said "It says here you're going to...hell?" and I said "no no, you guys canceled my flight to JFK," which *I* think is funny

I know a current MIT RA in a genomics lab who's interested in a PhD in combining evolutionary genomics/morpology (pretty broad) and image processing. She's already checking EvolDir, but if you're recruiting PhD students in this area, I would love to point her in your direction!

After a request (and because I also would find this useful) I'm testing out some options for altering recolorize output in user-selected regions. Would love some beta-testers; please email (or DM) if this might be useful for you and you'd be willing to provide feedback.

Groupers of the genus Plectropomus are known for mimicking toxic Canthigaster. The most impressive one of those to me is the Saddled Grouper (P. laevis), which mimics the Blacksaddled Toby (C. valentini). They are both quite common in the Great Barrier Reef. #ichthyology

Wrote about the time I helped RISD use a hyperspectral camera to uncover siapo designs that had been lost to oxidation--which was also a very applied lesson about irradiance: hiweller.rbind.io/post/an-anecdo…

No big deal, just the view of Helsinki's senate square from #EED2024 as the organizers did our final walk-through today 😎 We are ready for the satellite meetings on Monday!

We unearthed some truly cool material in the UHelsinki teaching collections (capybara skull! snake developmental series!). We brought as much as we could carry to senate square. Go check it out!

IMO most conferences should do this. Meat should be opt-in, not opt-out. As a vegetarian I have eaten my share of side dishes for dinner at a LOT of events because meat is the default. Never had to worry about it in Helsinki. It’s nice!
