HDI has always prioritized decentralization, focusing grants and capacity building on strengthening rural grassroots organizations that build agricultural livelihoods and produce the food #Haiti needs. HDI has just awarded 18 new grants in the South to support rural development.

HDI has connected students studying agriculture at CFFL with our grantees supporting farmers, providing students valuable field experience and farmers access to their learning on honey production, veterinary medicine, rice production and soil conservation. #Haiti

#Haiti Success Story: A $20k grant from HDI in 2022 enabled south Haiti community organization ASA to provide 90 goats to vulnerable families. These families have successfully raised, bred and sold goats and made cheese, increasing income and food security. Are up to 173 goats.

HDI’s support helps local Haitian organizations carry out their plans to develop their communities. Community organization GREDEL used a $15,000 grant to strengthen a cassava bread-making social enterprise that provides cassava farmers a market and employment. #Haiti Boston Foundation

HDI supports Haitian-led efforts to develop rural communities and the rural economy. RAPLASH, an organization in south Haiti, provides community rice farmers training and support to access seeds, fertilizer & equipment. With investment, Haitian farmers can feed #Haiti. Boston Foundation

CAPAD, a community organization in southern #Haiti, supports vulnerable farming families to diversify and earn more from their agro-pastoral activities. A $15,000 grant from HDI helped CAPAD promote the economic empowerment of 100 women and girls through goat raising. Boston Foundation

Excellent panel on successes in development assistance in Haiti (refreshing!) and what assistance is needed now to help Haiti emerge from its crisis - focused on the critical need to support rural development and civic engagement to fix Haiti's broken social contract.

Man Dodo Humanitarian Fan. partnered to build 12 homes for 2021 earthquake victims and organized a community-building event around the ribbon cutting, where HDI delivered an entrepreneurship training for young people. With the help of an HDI grant, local organization Association Solidarité Aquinoise is building a solar desalination system to provide sustainable access to clean drinking water for 900 people in Aquin, improving health and quality of life for the community. #haiti Boston Foundation

Agriculture is the heart of rural communities. Haiti's farmers deserve to be celebrated today - on Haitian Agriculture and Labor Day - and every day. HDI is proud to support their efforts to boost productivity and feed all Haitians, with grants, coaching and technical support.
