Our new publication was featured in this week's issue of NEJM with an editorial. We attempt to address the limitations of the MOTHER trial and compared the risks of adverse neonatal and maternal outcomes between maternal buprenorphine and methadone use: nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…

Observational studies are often the only option to estimate effects of interventions during #pregnancy. Thinking of emulating a #TargetTrial during pregnancy using healthcare databases? Here we review challenges and propose solutions to common biases👇 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36722806/

Dr. Anne Lyerly Anne Drapkin Lyerly from UNC Bioethics continued the introduction by highlighting the "pregnancy paradox" - challenges that we encounter in including pregnant people in randomized trials.

The last presenter of 16th #KolokotronesSymposium, Dr. Krista Huybrechts, co-director of Harvard Perinatal & Pediatric Pharmacoepidemiology, demonstrated how to conduct a study in large healthcare databases using the evaluation of buprenorphine vs. methadone in #pregnancy recently published in NEJM as a case study.

Dr. Huybrechts further concluded that research on medication use in #pregnancy "is not simply a yes/no question. It is about establishing the level of risk and discussing whether it is acceptable given the benefits, (other) risks, and costs."
