This week marked international Lynch syndrome day. Lynch syndrome increases your risk of cancer and runs in families. Many don't know they have it and so we cannot help them prevent their cancers. See information Lynch Syndrome UK to learn more.
A huge Congratulations to our Prehab/ERAS nurse Louise Falconer for gaining access to the Prehabilitation and Rehabilitation for people living with cancer university course this year. Well done. #goteam

Today is World Gynecologic Oncology Day; it is our mission NHS Lothian to provide world class & individualised care to those affected by gynaecological cancer. The earlier these cancers are diagnosed the better their outcomes. Please share & ensure everyone is vigilant for the symptoms.
This week has been a busy week for the depart. 1.) we will be opening a trial of a new device to help detect gynaecological cancer in partnership with Ian Daniels FRCS. This, we hope, will be far more comfortable than the current means of getting a diagnosis.
2.) Mr James May, one of our consultants, alongside Mr Zanellato from general surgery, inserted the first biological mesh in a patient in Scotland. This will make a huge difference for them and shows the collaborative spirit here Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh
This has been an amazing week. First a prize from Lynch Syndrome UK and now a prestigious award from the AACR. All this started with a clinical PhD with UoM Biology, Medicine and Health under Emma Crosbie and Prof Evans. We do it for the patients. But it feels so lovely to be recognised. Thank you
