It didn't take long before Bridget Phillipson's disgraceful decision to dump the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Act resulted in a gross infringement of freedom of speech at Cambridge. As President of CUCA, I guarantee that the meeting WILL go ahead telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/…
BBC News (UK) Declaring a 'right to live' is meaningless unless you build enough homes. Housing isn't an abstract right, it's a physical structure that we have to actually build enough of.
BBC News (UK) They have that right already. There are no legal restrictions as to where you can live in the UK. Maybe they can’t afford to buy/rent a house by that isn’t something a legal right can change. What they want is a subsidy to rent/buy
BBC News (UK) This nonsense about abstract rights is pervasive and ever expanding. The problem is not simply affordable housing, often it’s the availability of well-paid jobs, recreational opportunities etc. Reducing it to another duty of govt is foolish. It’ll be internal passports next.
Steven Barrett Are we to assume that the judges have been consulted about this extension of their powers over life? Unless I am wrong, current power is to agree with doctors on withholding of life-preserving interventions. This is different; this is the ordering of life-ending interventions.
