The 9th Brussels Conference on Syria reaffirmed our unwavering support. Total pledges have reached €5.8 billion in grants & loans for Syrian people & the region with 🇪🇺 pledging €2.5 billion. The EU & Member States remain primary donors with a joint pledge of 80% of grants.

The detention of Istanbul mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu (International) gives rise to questions regarding Türkiye’s adherence to its long-established democratic tradition. Authorities should provide full transparency & uphold fundamental rights and rule of law, which are integral to EU-Türkiye relations.

Congratulations to North Macedonia and Albania for setting the pace in the Western Balkans to receive pre-financing under the 🇪🇺 Growth Plan! This should fuel their implementation of key reforms to drive growth, improve citizens’ lives & bring the countries closer to the EU.

I deeply regret yet another step by the Georgian 🇬🇪 authorities away from EU values and standards. The law adopted today will further shrink civic space and add to existing repression. Such steps are contrary to democratic principles and should be reversed.
