Microbes are so interesting in #aquaponics because they all coexist you just need to decide which one you need more of at a specific point in time. Maybe you need pseudomonas bacteria more to break down solid waste at a specific point in time

Thereโ€™s specific ph levels that are a rule of thumb in #aquaponics but itโ€™s never static. Itโ€™s fluid! Ph regulates nutrient availability & nutrient uptake. Higher ph = higher toxicity of nh3 for example. Sometimes you measure pH but youโ€™re reading a change in a range of

Plant uptake and root health is important. Unlike #hydroponics.. #aquaponics is not sterile. Sub optimal ph just means poor nutrient uptake!!! Ammonia will always be produced in aquaponics cause fish poop daily so you need to modify how the system reacts to it and itโ€™s a headache

Potassium and magnesium are important in aquaponics!! Leafy greens love potassium (sulphate or carbonate for ph depending on water hardiness) and nitrate #aquaponics

People used to speak about so many data points in #aquaponics that I felt overwhelmed honestly. But now Iโ€™m realising that is all a game of balance and you need to know the important parameters when and where they are needed. Period. And an occasional mind of a microbiologist

Carbon dioxide retention makes fish more sluggish and the first thing you think to do is to freed more increasing your FCR meanwhile all you needed was nano bubbles. Oh #aquaponicsโ€ฆ.

Lipid content in fish feed increases digestible energy. In summer though fats in feed become harder to digest in warm water. So making the switch in winter and summer is important

I grow Kilombero rice in an off grid aquaponics system. No electricity. 90% less water. Baby tilapia fertilize the rice. Rice paddies are a magical thing! Itโ€™s clean, African, and climate smart. #Aquaponics #IndigenousFoods #WaterSmartFarming #Kilombero #AfricanFarming

Zim could outperform SA in exporting niche & high value foods due to lower labour and land costs which is ideal climates for indigenous crops & rising demand for organic produce. But poor cold chains, policy instability, certification gaps and limited port access still hold it

After a period of illness to the point of debilitating weakness, Iโ€™ve come to value health as the greatest form of wealth. Invest in clean eating, sourced directly from the land. Prioritise real food, avoid harmful additives, grow what you can, and support local farmers.
