I sent a paper to Analysis, the reviewers accepted it, the editor asked me to focus it entirely on one result mentioned in the paper but that I had in fact already published elsewhere, and when I said that the result was not new (it was just new to the editor): rejection 🙃

Linguists are really obsessed with syntax trees. It's one of the things I least understand about linguistics. They're just diagrams, but they are considered very important diagrams. No other diagrams are so highly esteemed.

I am at a conference in the UK and I discovered something important as a non-native speaker of English: there are speakers of British Eng who pronounce "thesis" in a way I cannot hear a difference with "feces".
