I know I’ve said this a million times but it bears repeating. It’s very comforting for some women to tell themselves that men try them badly β€œbecause of the whores”. We are not the reason men treat women badly. Harming us isn’t going to improve men’s behaviour.

This lie always ignores the issue that DWP sanctions and unliveable benefits are part of what means that women end up doing sex work. DWP insists violence upon people. If I’d relied on DWP when I was ill, I would’ve been homeless

Why would pimps want us in trade unions? Why would they want us to have access to the tools to challenge exploitative practices? What is truly disgusting is trade unionists condemning sex workers to work without rights, safety and autonomy to change our working conditions.

It makes absolutely zero sense as to why our bosses, because pimps are bosses, would want their workforce to unionise. When sex workers unionise, much like all other workers, our negotiating power grows and our bosses’ power weakens.

We can demand changes in conditions, like paying less money to the house, The application of trade unionism and benefits of building a workers’ movement within sex work is no different than in any other workforce, aside from the fact sex workers are criminalised.

If trade unionists want to cry about exploitation and safety, then why are they not championing sex workers’ access to rights? Why are they not advocating for decriminalisation, so ALL sex workers’ can access labour rights and protections?

If you don’t support the rights of all workers, especially the most marginalised and in dire need of unionising, then you should see yourself out of the trade union movement. Whether you like it or not, sex workers are already within it.

#4B Em We are not objects for consumption. If you personally find our work distasteful, please do consider supporting other workers’ rights movements that seek protections for potentially vulnerable workers performing often gendered labor:
