From the collective agreement to burn formula triangles at the stake, to using playdough when teaching physics concepts, and everything in between, the most epic takeaway for me today is @elthebasket's tank top. I.want.one. 👏 #ttsci

The reality of growing teacher shortages: we have 3 staff off long term - no agency supply available -HoD and second setting 58 cover lessons a week - two rounds of gcse exams: 4 staff mark double loads - some classes now taught in groups of 60 by dept leads ensure live teaching

The more schools I see the more I become convinced that implementing detentions should almost always be a whole school system, rather than something left up to individual classroom teachers to issue, communicate and hold, especially where it comes to follow up for non-attendance.

The first job of any incoming head of department is to do...nothing. Take your time. Figure things out. Don't rock the boat until you've identified the thing that really needs changing. That applies to anything: booklets, T&L, starters, homework platform, admin...whatever.

There’s always a honeymoon period at the start of the year. Schools feel good. This becomes vulnerable as we move to October & more so November. Why? Mini 🧵

Did not see this coming! There's an Ofqual consultation on potentially continuing to give GCSE equation sheets for the next three years. You can give your thoughts on the link below 👇 gov.uk/government/con…

Recruitment & retention… Much is made of what the sector can do to support this. I don’t disagree that there is a role for the sector & leaders to play but there are bigger issues at play beyond our control Mini 🧵
