Moving from SF to Miami made this clear. There’s plenty of vagrancy in both places and Miami has more crime overall. But crime here is more localized, and vagrants here aren’t constantly threatening people in tourist areas. It *feels* safer, even though stats may say otherwise.

I’ve begrudgingly come to the same conclusion, after 20 years working with everyone from nascent startups to Fortune 50’s. If you’re talented, you may not lose your job if you refuse to play. You may even get promoted a few times. But you’ll never reach your ceiling.
