This makes so little business sense by Anthropic and ChatGPT. Many people here seem to prefer western LLMs, but if they are locked out, that customer base will use Chinese LLMs. Why block potential long-term customers?

This is hilarious. Deepseek is groundbreaking in multiple ways, enough to enter the public consciousness as the "deepseek moment". Yet someone with the project still must have thought, how will we get more funding if agencies don't see a paper in a high impact journal?

The US needs a special economic zone with easy access to work visas and easy permitting for businesses. Would address many problems at once, and if done well would become a dynamic center that drives innovation. It won't happen, but it should.

This is why I don't understand the massive contracts. Is one person really better than 500, if the 500 are well directed? Also, lack of PhD training, either at Google University or in close connection with Silicon Valley U, seems like a missed opportunity. PhDs are cheap.

This is crazy and self-destructive in so many ways. But it also has moved my position about taxing endowments. If a university like Harvard won't use it's endowment [which must never be touched!] to support basic university functions, then might as well tax it.

A tip for referees: if something serious comes up, withdraw from the assignment early. Life happens, we understand. It doesn't do anyone favors to force a report, either by not giving the paper appropriate attention or by squeezing out other necessary responsibilities.
