Economic mobility in America is in crisis. Our new The Brookings Institution report looks at thousands of job transitions to see who’s getting stuck where, and offers targeted solutions that help workers find better jobs. Here are the main findings: Thread 1/10 brook.gs/3csK59k

Because of the O-1 visa for immigrants of extraordinary ability, Alexey Guzey is here in the US building new institutions of science rather than conscripted in the Russian military. We should make it possible for more Alexeys to come here.

I don't understand why this hasn't happened already. Biden can make Ukrainians eligible for TPS & Student Special Relief unilaterally. Doing so would help only Ukrainians already in US—not those newly fleeing— but the least we can do is decide not to send Ukrainians back to war

Today Greg Wright and I argue in The Hill that Congress is making a mistake by letting our longest-standing adjustment program, TAA, expire. We need to be helping more displaced workers adapt to a changing economy- not less! thehill.com/opinion/financ…

Updated time series, Monthly CPS, foreign-born in working age, from our EconoFactOrg with Reem Zaiour. Immigrants continue to catch-up after the drop of 2020-2021. Still 815,000 fewer immigrants in working age relative to the 2010-2019 linear trend.

Jeremy Neufeld and I at IFP teamed up with Greg Wright at The Brookings Institution to develop just the data-driven method that DOL needs. We’re calling it the Help Wanted Index and with it, we show what occupations could be included in Schedule A if it was updated

New report out today from Lindsay Milliken Jeremy Neufeld & Greg Wright on a wonky topic: Schedule A. It’s a little-known tool that would prioritize immigration in occupations for which there are insufficient numbers of U.S. workers to fill jobs.
