I sent my ghost-writing client my first invoice & they emailed back saying there was an error. I panicked, thinking I'd done some bad math & accidentally overcharged them & they'd be mad, only to find out I accidentally *undercharged* them & they were nice enough to say something

I've written more for my novel-in-progress in the past week than I have in the past 3 months. I've sent out 8 queries this month and have 3 short stories under consideration by literary magazines. It was rough there for a while, fam. But we ARE SO BACK

I used to feel nothing but fear & trembling after submitting my writing anywhere. But after about a year of submitting my work aggressively, I'm pleased to say I now get a little serotonin rush every time I sent a piece I wrote off somewhere for consideration.

I think interest in short fiction is waning. Read an article discussing how the expected path for emerging authors used to be short fiction --> magazine publications --> publishing debut novel. In recent years we've diverged. But short fiction is a great teacher & worthy craft
