Yesterday I got to see the great work being done to develop and promote light and very light rail systems across the UK. A key message was the importance of understanding the source of congestion and tailoring public transport options to solve it. A lesson #rdguk needs to learn!

Wonderful to be at the Strand Aldwych today - the extraordinary changes to this part of Ldn have made it great for walking & cycling, helping clean the air. Thanks to all who came along! We also launched our #BetterHealth briefing: bettertransport.org.uk/research/bette… #BetterTransportWeek

Opting for public/sustainable transport isn't just about environmentalism and Net Zero. It makes good business sense. The productive value of employees travelling by train is over £40 per hour. Employees who commute by bicycle take 27% fewer sick days per year. #betterbusiness

Yesterday I attended what was a fitting and moving ceremony to unveil a permanent memorial in Forbury Gardens to the three men who lost their lives in a senseless act of terrorism three years ago. As a community we will never forget their tragic loss.

The report calls for a 'systematic review of current and future road-building projects to assess their consistency with the Govt's environmental goals.' It is now crucial the Govt listens and acknowledges that reducing carbon emissions and road building do not go hand in hand.

It was wonderful to hear first-hand the experience of moving from the Caribbean to England in the 1950s and 1960s at 'A Conversation with Windrush Elders'. Many thanks to Reading Museum and the Reading Windrush Group for such an interesting event. #BlackHistoryMonth2023

At the Cleaner Air and Safer Transport Forum meeting last week we discussed the removal of the advanced stop line on the Lower Henley Road. It was great to hear that Reading Borough Council have listened to us and will be restoring the markings with a mandatory cycle lane in the new year

Last night I attended the Caversham Park Village Association EGM on its future. Great to see people volunteering to help rebuild; local councillors Clarence Mitchell, Simon Robinson and I are discussing with Reading Borough Council if funding can be found to save this valued local organisation.

I was very pleased to speak at the first Campaign for Better Transport councillor training event - organised with Bus Centre of Excellence - on the success of Reading Buses and what other local authorities can do to improve bus services for residents.

Another deplorable act by the Club's current owners. There is a peaceful protest outside Adams Park at 6pm tomorrow evening for anyone who cares about the future of Reading FC and wants to object.
