It's only been a few weeks, but we're still thinking about our study-abroad trip to Ireland over this past winter break. The two-week program was on Irish Folklore and Culture and took students from Wexford to Mayo to Dublin City and we can't wait to go back!

Now that the semester is in full swing, you're probably eagerly anticipating when our Spring 2025 events will be. Well, you're in luck! They're here right now and we look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you so much to Andy Kolovos from the Vermont Folklife Center for visiting our Folklore Theory and History class yesterday! It was an insightful experience hearing about his archivist work and the history of folklore archiving. We hope we'll have a chance to see him soon!

The week continues, course registration looms ever closer, and we still have Fall 2025 classes to show you.

Today we're going public with our cross undergrad/grad courses for Fall 2025! Public folklore is one of two graduate-level courses offered next semester. Registration is around the corner, so sign up for this class while there are still seats!

Registration starts tomorrow! And here is our final course, which is being offered next semester: folklore narrative: past and present. This course is listed for both graduate and undergraduate students, so register while there are still spots!

Congratulations to Amanda Young, the graduate recipient of the Yocom Prize for Spring 2025! In her paper, “Reembodiment: Reconsidering Reenacting” Young explores reenactment as a subject of folklore study, and proposes the concept of reembodiment.

Congratulations to Faith Baylor, the undergraduate recipient of the Yocom Award! Faith Baylor is an English undergraduate student minoring in Folklore and Mythology. They won the undergraduate prize for their paper “Birds in Early Irish Folktales and Mythology.”

The GMU English Department Awards were this week, and the Folklore Program did not come away empty-handed. Congratulations to our award winners, Emma Bussard, Evie Miller, and Amanda Young! These awards are a testament to your hard work and dedication.
