An adult male Nuctenea umbratica on the house tonight. I wish him luck, apart from a spiderling a few years ago, he's the first I've seen in the garden.

I was called upstairs because there was a spider on the toilet door. I was delighted to find a Scotophaeus blackwalli, I don't see them that often. It turned out later that I was supposed to remove it from the house, not just photograph it!

Nice to see the bigger summer spiders making an appearance. A Pisaura mirabilis on the house having a wander. BAS

It surprises me how big the adult females get. A Labulla thoracica in the kitchen this morning. At first glance I was expecting it to be a Zygiella x-notata. BAS

An Amaurobius fenestralis adult male wandering through the maze of similis and fenestralis webs. It's not easy living in a mixed species habitat, but it doesn't stop them trying. BAS

It's quite handy having a storm porch during an amber weather warning for rain. A Segestria senoculata seeking refuge, and both of us are dry. BAS

This spider appears to have 4 tubercules. I hoped for Ero aphana but I suspect once again I'm going to get the furcata here. BAS

That's the highlight of my night. An adult male Labulla thoracica in the porch tonight. Just look at those embolus loops. Magnificent palps! BAS

One of the garden Pholcus phalangioides carrying her egg sac. You can see at this stage the legs developing in each egg. BAS

A shopping trip to York today could only mean one thing. A short detour to Elvington. Tegenaria ferruginea are definitely worth the journey.BAS

A beautiful olive green Araneus quadratus, tucked into her thistle flower retreat. Cosy! The highest from the ground I've found, at around 3 feet. BAS

A seriously gorgeous Araneus diadematus in the garden tonight. For such a common spider they really are beautiful. Well worth the spider botherers knees.
