Have you ever seen a slow worm?

Neither a worm nor a snake, the slow worm is a legless lizard, found in heathland, grassland, woodland edges and sometimes gardens!

Like other lizards, they can shed their tail when threatened, and hibernate through the winter months.

The redstart is named for its red tail, which they frequently 'shiver'. They can be seen in the summer months in woodlands, hedgerows and parks, where they feed on insects.

They spend most of their time in the trees, so look out for them on branches over the next few months

Red mason bees are solitary bees that nest in hollow plant stems, holes in cliffs, and in cavities between brickwork, which is where they get their name.

Each female builds its own nest, laying individual eggs in 'cells' with pollen, which she seals with mud.

Blackcaps are mostly summer visitors, arriving this month to spend the summer here before heading back to southern Europe for the winter.

Males have the black cap they are named for, and females have a ginger-brown cap, look out for these warblers in woodland, parks and gardens.

If you see a butterfly with orange wing tips, it's likely to be the appropriately named orange-tip!

Only the males have orange tips, females have black tips and look similar to a small white butterflies, but both have a mottled green-grey pattern on the underside of their wings.
