I did not see this coming. Bill Shorten announces retirement from politics. Will remain in Cabinet until February. This is a significant loss for Labor. He is one of their best on policy detail and he's always across his portfolio. We're a lesser country for his 2019 loss.

In my mind, there are 2 categories of values people want: 1. Hard Values: policy alignment, values match, voting record; 2. Soft Values: authenticity, hard work, nice person, local connections. imho there's an interplay between both where compromising one compromises the other
