Europe - a patchwork quilt of green & yellow (canola oil) from Warsaw to Wicklow - a less mentioned problem for biodiversity - landscape homogeneity. Yet it has as many impacts as other frequently mentioned "drivers" ipbes UN Biodiversity Wildlife Health Australia #BiodiversityDay

today National Reconciliation week starts. Reconciliation is a vital process of making Australia adult, and is as critical as any other issues facing us. Well achieved, it will also help us solve other issues; social, cultural, and environmental..

Looking forward to taking part in this Alternet extravaganza talking up the uncomfortable space between science & policy; & exploring the realities of policy development rather than the textbook ideas

I'm not the least bit uncomfortable heading into this discussion, but maybe 🤔 I should be. 😅. But getting enough pizzazz in transformative change means getting uncomfortable...

too late I've read it, & it's the 2019 fires in Australia repeated. we need to have conversations with first nations about fire and how to deal with these fires because they respond to landscape "protection". First Nations have knowledges that can help.

my review of an important book on #trees; #woodlands; and #people. A good addition to the literature on nature and culture and the interactions between them.

indeed! it is quite depressing to hear of the priorities that politicians everywhere seem to embrace, seduced by soundbites - and - whisper is soft - heavy lobbying by NGOs whose business model demands these issues remain in the headlines..

On #internationalmangroveday in Shenzhen China an initiative - the international mangrove center - is being born. The center, under the Convention on Wetlands , will have a key global role in promoting mangrove conservation, thereby helping the global fight against negative climate change

given the speed and direction of global change Joshua Styles is right. It is time we stopped dreaming of the Arcadia that never was and focused on what we need to do to carry this planet over the next 50 years to a more stable situation. Backwards won't do it, forwards will.

editorial link.springer.com/article/10.100… by @DSSchmeller & me to the special issue on Transformative change in Biodiversity and Conservation special issue. All the articles are great, and the editorial is a good "thumb guide" to them all.

day 4 ipbes #10 - as usual critical day to see real progress on the discussions. @ipbes LinkedIn page (tinyurl.com/25zsozn6 ) gives short update. It is probably time to overhaul the @ipbes process of assessment acceptance/approval to make the meetings more productive

still hard at work in @ipbes #10 and apologies that the keyboard (never my fingers! 🤭) made an error and managed to call Bertie Bernie! whatever the name mess, a great team in action! DCCEEW Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry

It is Wattle day in Australia - celebration of our national floral emblem, & the start of spring. Meanwhile, wattle we do in @ipbes #10 today? Hopefully spring into action, not drown in semi-colons. Apologies for all the puns; 4 days @ipbes does that to you...
