I’m in Ambleside with Martin & Jill. Yesterday we got ferry from Lakeside to Windermere for lunch then returned to Lakeside. Today we drove to Dalegarth, caught tiny train to Ravenglas, had lunch, then got the train back. Scary drive back to Ambleside via Hard Knott Pass!!

Watching First Night of the Proms on tv and saw this instrument being played at the end of the trombone section. It seems to have a trombone bell, but valves instead of a slide! It looks quite large, so it probably plays a bass line. Has it got a special name?

My beautiful wisteria bore no flowers at all in the spring, but produced a lovely lone blossom this week in the middle of the drought and heatwave! The poor thing obviously doesn’t know what season we are in - but then neither do we!!

It would have been our 52nd wedding anniversary today - and look what I found in the garden - a perfect red rose and it is beautifully perfumed too! It has lifted my spirit. Thank you Lord.

In a life long ago (before marriage and children) I used to go “down the Lane” to support Castleford rugby league. I have just watched England ladies v Canada - it was so exciting! I had forgotten about the knot in my tummy as each try was scored!

As I was working in my kitchen I heard Sibelius’ Finlandia on Classic FM and this lovely hymn came to mind. The last verse is an appropriate prayer for today.

I had my snow shovel ready, but my kind neighbour beat me to it and has already cleared my path. He rang the doorbell to see if I needed anything from the shops. Thank you Lord for lovely neighbours.❄️🌨

What a feast of music even before the Coronation!

Hm! I made myself a cup of tea and sat down to watch Andy Murray @ Wimbledon. I saw them come out on Court and promptly fell asleep!!! The applause as Andy won the first set woke me up! Tea cold. Is it an age thing?!!!

I have received 3 inappropriate notifications recently - I blocked all of them. I cannot comprehend why some folk think it’s alright to post such rubbish.

Been to church and come home alone for lunch! Not a usual Sunday occurrence. Watched Songs of Praise, went to make cup of coffee and guess what! Ancient film of “We’re all going on a Summer Holiday” was just beginning on tv! Next couple of hours sorted!!

Overnight my lawn has disappeared and been replaced by a golden carpet of beech leaves!!! It looks beautiful, but I think I should now be praying for a windy day.
