Jesus shows us that healthy Christians do not avoid conflict. His life was filled with it! He was in regular conflict with the religious leaders, the crowds, the disciples—even his own family. Out of a desire to bring true peace, He disrupted the false peace around him.

Christmas isn't just a 1 day thing—it's a season that lasts until Epiphany. The feast continues. In a world of rapidly changing trending topics, we move on too fast to the next thing. As Rolheiser has said "Our society knows how to anticipate an event but not how to sustain it."

We value big. Our Savior became little. We value recognition. He was despised. We value beauty. He was marred. When we get to eternity, the most beautiful thing there will be the scars of Jesus Christ.

The work of the church is not the call to ministry. Our true work is that of manifesting likeness to Christ in all things, whether in success or failure, criticism, or praise. If numbers, growth, and fame were God’s measures, then Jesus would be deemed a failure.
