Fantastic talk from our favorite author today! Thank you so much to alex kershaw for coming to GHS to speak to our students about the heroism and lessons of WWII! Mr. Kershaw inspired students with the story of Felix Sparks of his book The Liberator and VA’s own Bedford Boys. 🇺🇸
Our director, Mrs. Tate, spent the day VA Holocaust Museum for the Teaching About World War II Using Personal Stories Workshop including MacArthur Memorial, National D-Day Memorial, Virginia War Memorial, NavalAviationMuseumFoundation, Military Aviation Museum, & HR Naval Museum! So many new stories, resources, & ideas for our students!
Our director, Mrs. Tate, spent a week Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. experiencing Marine recruit life firsthand. She’s bringing back valuable insight to help students understand veterans' experiences & military opportunities! Thank you so much to Recruit Station Richmond for hosting! ❤️💛🇺🇸💪 #SemperFi
We had a great author visit today from Robin Traywick Williams telling our students about her book The Last Romantic War and her parents' experiences and love story during World War II! Our students thoroughly enjoyed the talk, artifacts, and books Mrs. Williams shared!
This AM our director Mrs. Tate flew in a Blackhawk with Virginia National Guard and brought Goochland High School friends along. Tonight 8 of our new interns joined Virginia Museum of History & Culture 81st D-Day anniversary event w/ Virginia National Guard VirginiaNationalGuardMuseum - our students got to wear WWII uniforms to teach!

This week, our students mailed 75 handwritten cards to their veterans, as a small way to say thank you for their service and friendship. 🇺🇸✉️ We’re also sending thank yous to our amazing sponsors, including Chick-fil-A, Inc. 288 & Broad, for their continued support!
Friday night, we had the honor of hosting U.S. Army veteran, Donald Owens as an honorary Goochland Football captain! 🇺🇸 He was joined on the field by his granddaughter, Maya, a senior intern. Thank you for your service, Mr. Owens!🏈
We’re excited to share that Chatham High in Pittsylvania County Schools has officially launched its own Veterans Project under the mentorship of our director, Mrs. Tate! Honored to see this work grow and empower even more students to learn from the heroes in their communities. 🇺🇸✨
Before heading out on their Thanksgiving break, 64 of our students took the time to create cards to celebrate U.S. Marines WWII veteran, Mr. Frank S. Wright’s 💯th birthday! #HonoringHeroes 💌🎉🎂
24 students, 3 families, and one of our veterans all joined us at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia for Wreaths Across America America to honor our service members who have passed by laying wreaths on veterans graves. A great day for #CommunityService 🌲
