I've been noodling my struggle with anxiety today, particularly in connection with solo travel. My motto around this is - Go, even if you are afraid, you will regret it if you don't. (With safety caveats, of course!)

Anyone have tips for not comparing your trajectory to others? XD I am happy with my progress and with what I am doing, but somehow, I still end up feeling discouraged when I compare where I am at with others my age.

I will not come on Twitter for 5 minutes and immediately start fighting with people about how bad short term rentals are - I will not! XD But seriously, stay in hotels, hostels, actual bed and breakfasts, motels, campsites... anything but Airbnb and VRBO.

In terms of the "ivory tower" of academia, I have experienced some serious disrespect trying to work with academics even with a PhD. In some circles, practitioners are looked down on and that doesn't encourage collaboration.
