A misleading paper in Science Magazine just came out talking about how a single gene can increase rice yield by 41-68%. As a (wanna-be) plant breeder, I’m here to tell you why this study is misleading, and we can’t “solve” yield through single genes 🧵 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
Today at Rothamsted Research we harvested the UK's first QHP field trial - gene-edited Camelina which, thanks to new legislation, could be grown as non-GM. Much easier to do experiments and test different edits in the field. Thanks to Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research and Yield10 Bioscience for support.
Emotional day, as our DTU Biosustain & BioInnovation Institute teams together w/ Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI) O'Connor Lab Vincent Courdavault labs showcase supply #WHO listed essential medicine vinblastine in engineered yeast: nature.com/articles/s4158…. Thx to everyone involved & founders Novo Nordisk Foundation Horizon Europe🇪🇺 BioInnovation Institute
Congratulation to all co-authors Fernando Geu-Flores, Sotirios Kampranis, Dan Staerk for this amazing work on the elucidation of the first steps of ginkgolide biosynthesis Nature Communications. In our Plant Natural Product Biosynthesis & Biotechnology collection Fernando Geu-Flores & co Department of Plant & Environmental Sciences review the biosynthesis of quinolizidine alkaloids in lupins to elucidate the full pathway Read the #OpenAccess article in full below👇 pubs.rsc.org/en/content/art…
Level up: first conference talk in Danish! Special mention to Sophie Otterbach 🙂 #plantekongres #herning #lupiner #alkaloider
Today in Science: towards limonoid biosynthesis (e.g. azadirachtin). Full of juicy nuggets: methyl shift (+cyclopropane ring formation) by new enzymes, protective acetylation, Baeyer-Villager, and furan ring formation. Congrats Sattely_lab, Anne Osbourn, and Hannah Hodgson!

Y'all have heard of single-cell transcriptomics. But... single-cell METABOLOMICS?? No problem, say Chenxin Li, PhD (@chenxinli2.bsky.social), Lorenzo Caputi, O'Connor Lab, Buell lab and colleagues. Impressive work!
Fantastic interview of Andrew D Hanson Lab by our postdoc Henryk Straube at Plant Physiology. Full of transformative advice to researchers at all career stages. And sprinkled with brilliant quotes by many others. Are you a fox🦊or a hedgehog 🦔?
Our latest story in Science Advances ✅We pinned down the mutation that gave us sweet white lupins ✅We recreated the sweetness in blue lupins using FIND-IT ✅We revised how bitter lupin alkaloids are made science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… 🙏Science at VILLUM Novo Nordisk Foundation and +others!
