Reception children had a shock to see signs with messages like "No girls" and "Boys only". They did not like having to make their own choices of play based on gender. This led to excellent discussions around fairness and equality to kick start our 'challenging stereotypes week'.

Reception were lucky to have a special visit from ex- GSPS pupil; Lenna Gunning-Williams. She told the children about her job as a professional footballer at Tottenham Hotspurs. The pupils were excited to hear how she achieved her dream job and even learned a few football skills.

In the second part of our y5 PSHE sessions in Stereotypes Week, we wrote letters to Disney explaining the gender stereotyping of their characters, then offered them an alternative ending with an empowered female!

As part of Challenging Stereotypes week, the children in Year 2 have enjoyed focusing on the topic of gender. They have learnt that this does not always show what we like to do e.g. boys and girls can both enjoy football, both boys and girls can have long hair if they choose to.
