This is so incredibly wild to watch if you remember the UC Davis pepper spray incident in 2011. That was a HUGE story—the cops' names weren't even released until a 2014 court order, and UC Davis spent 175K to scrub the pictures from the internet. But TEAR GAS?!

One of the post docs in my PhD lab used to call this “let’s go get refresh,” and I’ve never had a better description of this act.

It is absolutely ridiculous that no one at some of our nations best universities seem to know a damn thing about de-escalation and conflict resolution.

The incorrect information dispensed by NYC’s AI-powered chatbot “is a perfect illustration of how premature adoption of new technology...can create costs for governments — and the public — that far outweigh the benefits,” writes D&S’s Aiha Nguyen. thehill.com/opinion/techno…

I teach at Columbia University and have been appalled at the administration's response to student protests. This ACLU open letter on how to preserve academic freedom and free speech is spot on.

In November, tech companies promised pre-release access of their latest models for safety testing. Turns out, they're refusing to provide it.

Let's say it together - voluntary commitments do not work. We need mandatory requirements, not broken promises.

Everyone who keeps saying 'AI learns just like humans', as a sort of counter-argument to artists, realize that the 'AI' is controlled, operated and profited from, by another entity, right?
It's not the 'AI' going out and doing art shows to pay rent. You get that, yeah?

I just spent a couple of hours at the Harvard encampment, talking with some of the organizers/protestors. Sorry to disappoint but none of them have horns, and no one I talked to supports Hamas. I saw students who care very deeply about what is happening, and mostly want the war
