I usually only tweet about cricket, but today it all seems so unimportant given what is happening in Ukraine. Instead my thoughts are with the Ukrainian people, fearing for their lives and those of their family.

In his autobiography No Spin Shane Warne describes the art of leg spin as 'creating something that is not really there. It's a magic trick, surrounded by mystery, aura and fear.' I saw him weaving his spell at Trent Bridge in 2005 setting Trescothick up for the sting. Mesmerising

Listening to Test on Talk Sport yesterday they were talking about Root's shortcomings as a captain, but thought he must stay due to lack of alternatives? Lovely lad, great bat, poor captain. I back Broad as captain until Stokes is ready.

On this pitch I do feel genuinely sorry for Matt Fisher and Saqib Mahmood (especially after bowling Blackwood off a no-ball). What wouldn't these 2 youngsters give for some advice from senior bowlers who have done it all. But all we have are 2 old guys too past it to be picked

I just don't understand why the West Indies have prepared these awful pitches. Their pace attack is completely neutered as well. Just when Test cricket needs all the help it can get.....

Brilliant from England women's cricket team! Reaching final after such a difficult start, losing their first three games. They will now take the momentum from 5 straight wins into the final. C'mon England!

Off to Trent Bridge next week for first home match of the season, Notts v Glamorgan. Behaving like a hermit till then so the dreaded Covid doesn't get me and spoil everything!

There have been a load of runs in the County Championship over the last few days, which has been unusual in the early games over recent years. Are counties under instruction to produce better wickets as part of the red ball reset or are counties making the effort themselves?

Just watched some fine cricket on livestream with First Class Counties XI giving New Zealand something to think about and Ben Compton giving England something to think about. Can't believe Notts let him go!

My book. 'Cricket, My Brother and Me', was published on 6 June 2022 by Pitch Publishing. It is written uniquely from a fan's perspective. "Geoff’s passion for cricket shines through, along with his ‘barmy’ sense of humour." - Paul Burnham, co-founder of the Barmy Army

Funny how the exclusion of Broad and Anderson from the West Indies tour is now never mentioned. One day those responsible for the decision might tell us their thinking...Don't hold you breath!

I will be signing copies of my new book, 'Cricket, My Brother and Me' Nottinghamshire CCC on Monday 27 June during the crunch County Championship match between Notts and Middlesex. Copies of the book will also be available to purchase in the Trent Bridge shop.

Having watched all 5 days of NZ Test at Trent Bridge, I can confirm the 'new' approach is good box office. However, I am not a fan of the short ball stuff to the tail. It has resulted in some wickets, but they have cost a lot of runs each time, especially in this match.
