I usually only tweet about cricket, but today it all seems so unimportant given what is happening in Ukraine. Instead my thoughts are with the Ukrainian people, fearing for their lives and those of their family.

Listening to Test on Talk Sport yesterday they were talking about Root's shortcomings as a captain, but thought he must stay due to lack of alternatives? Lovely lad, great bat, poor captain. I back Broad as captain until Stokes is ready.

On this pitch I do feel genuinely sorry for Matt Fisher and Saqib Mahmood (especially after bowling Blackwood off a no-ball). What wouldn't these 2 youngsters give for some advice from senior bowlers who have done it all. But all we have are 2 old guys too past it to be picked

I just don't understand why the West Indies have prepared these awful pitches. Their pace attack is completely neutered as well. Just when Test cricket needs all the help it can get.....

There have been a load of runs in the County Championship over the last few days, which has been unusual in the early games over recent years. Are counties under instruction to produce better wickets as part of the red ball reset or are counties making the effort themselves?

Having watched all 5 days of NZ Test at Trent Bridge, I can confirm the 'new' approach is good box office. However, I am not a fan of the short ball stuff to the tail. It has resulted in some wickets, but they have cost a lot of runs each time, especially in this match.
