Today, we commemorate the birthday of Robert Hoddle (1794-1881), a pioneering figure in the history of surveying in Australia.

As Victoria's first Surveyor General from 1851 to 1853, Hoddle played a pivotal role in establishing the cadastral system of Victoria.
