S. horneri presence contributes to ephemeral increases in gross community production and community respiration, but no significant changes to net community production in a kelp forest ecosystem. New study by Genoa Sullaway and @kelptalk available here: bit.ly/meps_637_45
Restored shorelines benefit small fish. Genoa Sullaway found juv. Chinook & chum #salmon were more tolerant of modified shorelines than surf smelt and sand lance, linked to body size. All fish were more abundant when #eelgrass was present, regardless of shoreline type. #SSEC2020
Different stocks of fall-run #Chinook #salmon vary in their ocean distributions and associated sea surface temps Climate change may shift these distributions and impact #fisheries resources #fishsci Genoa Sullaway @ericward_ @JordanTWatson1 @satterwill doi.org/10.1111/faf.12…
I make comics that simplify a piece of my scientific papers and hopefully reach a broader audience. scottgabara.weebly.com/comics.html Ecosphere SDSU MEBSA San Diego State University UC Davis Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute Here’s the one for my latest paper:
Genoa Sullaway just pub'd a terrific paper considering the causes and consequences of increasingly synchronous ocean #salmon distributions for people and fish-eating killer whales. the take-home? we need mgmt + conservation actions that reduce spatial synchrony NOAA Fisheries NWFSC
