Aphasia is a communication disorder caused by damage to the part of the brain that controls language.   It has nothing to do with intelligence.   1/3

I'm not sure that an "inability to speak fluently" is a barrier to progress. Rather, I think the barrier is typically people in positions of relative power rigidly insisting that others adhere to "standard" (i e. neurotypical, white, middle-class...) forms of communication...

Brilliant key-note speech from Prof Marian Brady at #BASConf2023 this morning. Great to see the Aphasia Support role (increasing intensity of SLT using computer therapy) is consistently being proven effective in research. ⬆️ Intensity = ⬆️ language outcomes and functional comm 💡

Had a fascinating day representing Aphasia Support at the #AphasiaConference in Coventry. Powerful stories shared. Paul who lives with Aphasia reminded everyone not to give Aphasia the ‘power’ to control your life. Looking forward to meeting other attendees at our stand tomorrow!

So many great handouts collected from #aphasia organisations at the Coventry conference for people with aphasia. All available here at the conference only. So valuable for people with aphasia and their families.
