mathematicians/history of maths people, does the third proof of the pythagorean theorem here have a name or namesake? also: either pray for, or be jealous of, my students tomorrow. this is what teaching Plato makes me do.

please, writers and editors, consider how readers practically encounter references. I just checked an endnote (awful) which quoted 'Hegel 1998'. then I go to the bibliography and it's some Hegel 'Reader'. I still don't know what actual text this is. terrible. sorry but do more

what did you like, famous wealthy person? the hierarchy of essentially different types of people? the male guardians having common possession of all women and children for eugenic purposes? the bit where that's gonna whoops involve some inbreeding? the divided line? I'm gonna kms

My article “Making sense of critical theory’s economic gap” is now available at Constellations :) Inside: equal parts genealogy and conceptual analysis of why critical theory struggles - counterintuitively - to think meaningfully about the economy. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/14…

for a standard journal article? max 500. for a conference paper? half an hour of speaking? 50, 100, absolute max 200 words. 1000 words is a declaration of intention for many dozens of pages of dense writing.

红色娘子军🌹 this is the only good generational narrative for millennials- we were handed an incredible global trajectory defining tool, we got to witness what it is capable of, we saw it dismantled systemically by powerful interest groups and the whole planet is dumber and meaner for it

imagine. imagine thinking you understand the concept of divine ordination: who among we the fallen is given grace, is chosen—with all the obligations needed by the hard work of redemption? ok now imagine making this about the imaginary video game stats of your favorite rich loser

confirmed I accuse Deleuze and Guattari's theory of the Urstaat of being absolute idealism in the new What's Left of Philosophy, partly to make people mad to farm engagement but also because it's simply correct

maybe the wildest moment of the Meno is when, after claiming that the geometry exercise constitutes an argument for the immortality of the soul and defuses Meno's paradox, Socrates says 'but anyway if that's wrong who cares just go along with it' (86c)

disappointed but not surprised that the presidential debate was softball bullshit, never asking the truly hard questions like whether the world is a single substance, how we can cognize the nature of things in themselves, whether there will be restaurants in socialism etc

new episode out now! we talk Nicos Poulantzas's remarkable theorizing about the capitalist state, opening the door for neither the dictatorship of the proletariat nor smashing the state but a secret third thing 😎
