via @NYTimes — as someone relatively new to “cave science,” I agree that the vocabulary is pretty daunting at first, and maybe over-specific. I’m not sure, however, that the jargon problem stops when you step out into the sun- all the acronyms in bio? nytimes.com/2021/04/09/sci…

I chuckle about organic maple syrup, but this beats it hands down. I suppose the Clostridium botulinum is grown in a kale-chia-açaí medium?

I’m on a flight to Syracuse, NY and one of my fellow passengers is wearing a confederate flag mask. Totally his right to do so, but I just don’t get it. What is the message? Is it supposed to somehow be patriotic? How does it make the African American flight attendant feel?

Maine has the highest number of vanity plates per capita, and this is what it yields on a pretty nice Audi. In honor of this surprise, I played pour some sugar in me for my 13 yr old niece.

Congratulations to our grad student, Helbert Garcia Delgado, on receiving a $1000 research grant from CNYAPG! He continues a nascent tradition of Colombian graduate student success in pursing funding.

Nicolás Pérez Consuegra’s last diss. chapter out today in GSA Bulletin! An awesome dataset that rewrites the history of the Cauca River canyon as a single wave of latest miocene incision: doi.org/10.1130/B36047… Syracuse University Earth & Environmental Sciences

I’m so proud of the Syracuse University Earth & Environmental Sciences graduate students for doing such an amazing job organizing their first CNY Earth Sciences Symposium since 2019. Well attended with a robust presence of students from other institutions too!

I’ve restarted my relationship with the concept II rowing ergometer after a 25 year hiatus (Uri Mtz). I took it up a notch today with @N2daBiz’s favorite from U2, I was in the gym, but my mind was in the Narrow River, Lake Quinsigamond, and the Schylkill River all at once. Wow

In the field in Chile with @Benja_Guerrero and we ran into this sign. I can’t tell if it is an intentional message or only bad spelling.
