(Re-)reading for class today, what in my view is one of the best civil liberties decisions from any court in recent years: the judgment of the Hong Kong First Instance Court striking down a ban on face masks, which was targeted at protesters --

One little bit of oral history is that this judgment came out right in the middle of the 2019 Kashmir internet shut-down, and we brought it to the notice of the SC, which was hearing the challenge. The States' arguments in both cases were strikingly similar.
