The #BayeuxTapestry coming to the UK is exciting and all but DID YOU KNOW that in our Archive we have our very own tapestry which tells the story of St Magnus? It's not QUITE as old/long/historically significant as the Bayeux Tapestry but still well worth a visit. 🪡

It's a beautiful sunny weekend in Scotland...I'm staying in the shade mostly. I've started a small canvas (10 x 8 inches) and just completed doing the outline drawing. It's a traditional Paisley pattern teardrop adapted from a pattern from the 1840's. Happy Sunday...😀👍...Lil

At todays womens heritage workshop we spent a lot of time online looking at the census returns for the Female House of Refuge in Paisley...we got to these records via a search for "Mrs Stark" the Matron of the Refuge. Original research carried out at the one and only DRC

Our main task at todays Women's Heritage group at the one and only Disability Resource Centre was a bit of statistical analysis of the age ranges of inmates using the 1871 census for the Female House of Refuge at 5 Stow Place, Paisley. Who was a "typical" inmate of the Refuge?

Another lovely Sunday morning spent working on my "big" canvas...putting a top coat on + highlighting detail of one of the derelict shops on Well Street; the wee "hoolet" (old Scots term for an owl) + the double headed figure...representing the Roman God - Janus. 😀👍...

Detail from the canvas I'm working on...shows the "counting house" building in Well Street. As I walked past the building this past week it's quite sad seeing it being demolished..my depiction is a record of a building now part of Paisley's history...passing thoughts...😀Lil...

At the Women's Heritage Group we looked at trade directory adverts for the Paisley House of Refuge commercial laundry as well as doing a "live" search of the 1891 census...

From 2019 a wee canvas showing a big louse sitting on a piece of Ayrshire whitework...shown as part of an exhibition of works inspired by the poetry of Rabbie Burns at the Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway...! "Ah wad the power to gie us, to see ourselves as others see us..."
