In the 1960s/70s BBC radio election night coverage was on the Home Service (Radio 4), Light Programme (Radio 2) and, yes, even on the Third Programme (Radio 3). A brief look at the time when announcers read ALL the results in order in my latest blog post bit.ly/4buRZuD

Today marks 33 years since The Match was live for a top of the table clash between Leeds & Man Utd. But look at ITV’s build-up here. There’s just 2 mins from the opening titles to Elton Welsby handing over to comms. Simple and effective. Halcyon days.

I first met #BrianMurphy some 20 years ago, through my friend, the filmmaker Stanley Long. #ManAboutTheHouse was always my fave sitcom, so meeting him was a thrill. Brian was so gracious, eloquent, and incredibly friendly. Everything you heard about him is true. #RIPBrianMurphy

35 years ago tonight, the BBC showed Man Utd’s FA Cup semi-final replay against Oldham, whilst ITV screened the Division One game between Arsenal and Aston Villa. It was the very first time that the two main channels had gone head-to-head with 2 different domestic live matches.

New article is Bursts of Gaelic Madness: Mag is Mog and Bzzz curiousbritishtelly.co.uk/2025/04/bursts… which looks at two Scottish Gaelic children's programmes from the early 1980s which rank among the strangest things I've ever watched.
