An excellent day was spent back in Kent yesterday as we searched without success for Golden Oriel around Margate then ventured to North Foreland and The Stink where we spent an hour or so in the company of Peter Carr, John Carnell and Phil Bearat watching Whimbel pass by.

Three more species added to Year list with pick of the bunch the Eleonora’s Falcon at Worth along with cracking Red Footed Falcon then a quick dash to Norwich Airport for Lesser Grey Shrike, we had left Kent before the Sardinian came up on RBA but hey that’s for another day🙄.

Struggling with the heat at Oare Marsh LNR, but managed to catch up with the Bonapartes Gull so called into the Three Mariners for a swift Shandy! Peachy!!

New Year’s Day birding back in Kent. 67 species recorded with highlights - Twite, Long tailed Duck, SEO, Greenland White Fronted Goose, Hen Harrier and Woodcock at various sites around East Kent.

4 hours and 3.5 mile stroll around Sandwich Bay Estates turned into a Raptor fest with 2 Common Buzzard, 2 Red Kite, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Merlin, 1 Peregrine 4 Kestrel and an early morning Short-eared Owl.

Sunday at Dungeness saw a surprise Hooded Crow, germinating the idea of seeing all UK breeding Crows in 1day in Kent, Jackdaw Carrion Crow & Magpie already seen so off to Dover for Chough,👍, St Margret’s at Cliffe for Jay & Rook but had to wait until this morning for Raven👍

Day 2 birding with Rob Rackliffe Virginia Fairchild and Pauline in Southern Spain, all targets met Inc N Bald Ibis 40+, 3 Monty’s, 3 Little Bustards, 1 Stone Curlew, adult Spanish Eagle and Common Bulbul the day ended with excellent meal in Moroccan restaurant. 🙏 Rob for 👍 driving

Sat watching the early evening sky when a Purple Heron nonchalantly flys directly over the garden, f*!k it camera and bins still in the car!!! Oh well another garden tick

Our first full day in Ohio State USA was a wet one, although not a complete washout as we birded from the car, traveling to several state reserves we picked up 4 lifers and managed a few images on the way; House Martin, Great-Blue Heron, Eastern Kingbird & Downy Woodpecker.

Took a trip out to Worth Marsh RSPB with ⁦Rob Rackliffe⁩ looking for and finding 2 X Red-footed Falcon (phone scope image attached) 2 x Hobby and 1 x White-tailed Eagle, a county tick. With a total of 68 species it was a very successful morning.
