I nervously answered the phone. It was the call I had been waiting for. "Garry, we have a tee time at Otter Creek Golf on Saturday," said my golfing partner Santino. And so it begins.

So who was Canada's first Olympic Gold medallist? Probably not who you are thinking of. Mark Hebscher's new book 'The Greatest Athlete you've never heard' of arrived in the mail today. I look forward to reading it before Ian Andrew's new book arrives.

Kudos to the pro shop staff at Otter Creek. I can't believe how organized they were and how smoothly the check-in process worked with lots of social distancing. And we played in just over four hours. And the bald eagles were in their nest. Spectacular.

Sad, but not surprising, that the Hamilton-Halton Junior Golf Tour, has announced the cancellation of its whole 2020 season. This would have been the Tour's 37th season.

In Every Genius There's a Little Madness. No, sadly, not my life story...well maybe the madness part. Ian Andrew's new book on Stanley Thompson has arrived in the mail and I can't wait to dive into it. Looks great. Nice job Ian.

Fun to watch the replay of the final round of last year's RBC Canadian Open. I'd forgotten how well the Hamilton G&CC looked and how much it was praised on the broadcast.

Oh, isn't this great. A bunch of yahoos from Toronto decide to have a party in a park and ignore social distancing and not wear masks and now the province is thinking about punishing all of us by slowing down the opening. Idiots!

To all my golfing friends here is my question. I played today and didn't hit a single shot from a fairway for the first seven holes - not one. Is that like, a bad thing?

I know the PGA Tour is returning but the best golf show on TV right now is Holey Moley 2. It's a very funny mini-putt. They even have a hole shaped like the planet Uranus and announcers keeping saying the fans love to see (yes they actually say it).

Went for a nice drive in the country yesterday and ended up at what used to be Coral Creek Golf Club. Just sat in the car looking out over the overgrown fairways and greens. So sad. It was such a fun place to play.

Prince Philip turned 99 today. So if he lives another year does he qualify to receive a congratulatory letter from The Queen? Have you ever wondered that? Well, I have.

Played @CHC1922 (Cherry Hill Club) today. Maybe the best conditioned course I have ever played. Not a divot, not a blade of grass out of place. It is immaculate. Not getting much play either. 75percent of their members are Americans who can't get over the border right now.

Found a great post golf place after a round Cherry Hill Club (Cherry Hill Club). The Stevensville Ice Cream Parlour is great even if you only like French Vanilla.

I don't think I've ever been so excited over simply making an appointment for a haircut. Friday at 4:30 I'm seeing Carmen and it will be a load off my shoulders.

Just finished reading @IanAndrewGolf new book "In Every Genius There's a Little Madness." If you are a fan of Stanley Thompson courses or even just golf course architecture it's a must read. Great insight from a guy who knows the business inside and out.

I think that I'm getting a complex. I have played Otter Creek many, many times (including Sunday) and have never written anything on the scorecard beside the 9th hole besides an X. I can hit my drive into the ravine or my second shot or my third or all of them. And then I quit.

Great column by Steve Milton today about M.M. Robinson former Hamilton Spectator sports editor who founded the Commonwealth Games in 1930. Interesting that there is NOTHING in the Spec building that honours him or his accomplishment.

If you sang our national anthem today you can thank Robert Stanley Weir who wrote the words in 1908. Weir was also Canada's first golf writer as well as being a prominent judge and poet. And he was born in Hamilton.
