Honored to have been part of the ceremony in Vicenza, Italy, where we came together to recognize and pay tribute to Staff Sgt. Matthew Matlock from the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team. His heroic actions under fire in Afghanistan to save his fellow soldiers are nothing short.

I had the honor of standing alongside Col. Erik Daiga, the garrison commander for the Vicenza Military Community, as we proudly recognized Command Sgt. Maj. Earl Rice during a graduation ceremony in Vicenza.

On November 30, soldiers of the 173rd Airborne Brigade gathered at Caserma Ederle to honor Staff Sgt. Mathew Matlock of 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, for his bravery in Afghanistan. Receiving the Silver Star, Matlock humbly praised his comrades' sacrifices.
