Chatting to my son's friend yesterday. He tells me... “I don't understand why some teachers demand so much respect from us, when they offer so little to us.”

I bought my kids their first little suitcases when they came to live with me. I'll never forget the utter joy watching them wheel them around the driveway in circles. We shouldn't have to argue that every child deserves more than a bin bag.

Love hearing from those within education who are looking to do things differently. I could see this positively impacting many, many children.

If you're the adult in the relationship, it's always your job to do the repair. If the child comes to you first, then great. If they don't... it's your job.

Much of what I write, including this, is a reminder to myself more than anything else. I don't share because I'm getting it right all the time. I share because I'm still getting it wrong.

Agreed. Although I think, for many kids, you also have to prove it. My kids respect me (mostly!) because I don't break promises. I'm there every time they need me. I refuse to let them down, even when they feel they've let themselves down.

Over the weekend, I wanted to talk to kids about Year 7. But all I got was conversation about behaviour points. C1s, C2s, C3s. How one can become another. How unfair it all seems. How to game the system to get points to trade for prizes. Who already has the most negatives.

Working on some slides for training I'm delivering tomorrow. When a baby is born, their brain is a quarter the size of an adult brain. By age 1, the baby's brain has *DOUBLED* in size. By age 3, it's at 80%. And by age 5 it's at 90%.
