It seems a bit strange to me that OCD diagnostic criteria don't seem to emphasise the waxing/waning nature of the illness; there aren't many patients I know who don't describe this. Is this an outlier?

A day of shame for the UK. A political party proposes mass deportations and the response from other political parties is not to condemn this as going further than even Mosley or the National Front.

Always fucks me off to see - frankly, mostly Liberals - saying that racists are uneducated. Education has absolutely nothing to do with it. That Tom Skinner guy has had an education more expensive and prestigious than any of us ever had. Same with Farage, et al.

It was a privilege to be invited onto the The Guardian Science Weekly podcast to clarify some misconceptions around "AI psychosis" and explore how popular LLMs may, in certain cases, encourage delusional thinking. theguardian.com/science/audio/…

IMPORTANT: Decades of rigorous research, randomized clinical trials, peer-reviewed studies, meta-analyses, national registry studies, and FDA oversight show that psychiatric medications are safe and effective. Medications like SSRIs can be lifesaving if they are taken as directed

Abreaction was once a common treatment for functional neurological disorder (FND) but has since fallen out of use. Norman Poole argues that abreaction is compatible with many findings from modern neuroscience, and should be tested as a treatment for FND. tinyurl.com/fcjpywx2

You can genuinely smell the fascism off of folks early if you pay attention. The fat phobia of this man should have been a big clue.

The RFK Jr + MAHA alliance may very well ensure that the psychiatric harm movement is eventually remembered not for saving lives from medical overreach, but for wrecking public health in America. The irony of this outcome will not be lost on observers and future commentators.

I am very, very far from a Scottish nationalist. But, seeing the revolting racism in England just now (don't get me wrong - it's here in Wcotland too, just thankfully not as much), who wouldn't want to distance themselves from that?

Currently on-call. So difficult to get to sleep after a call, eh? Not even in an anxious ruminating sense. Just in a "oh I turned my brain on and there is no off button" sense.

I’d have more respect for “don’t trust the experts” crowd if they actually had a coherent philosophy of knowledge and scientific progress, and demonstrated some humility and self-critique, but all they have to show is paranoia, gullibility, conspiratorial thinking, and arrogance.

Awais Aftab (@awaisaftab) 's Twitter Profile Photo

By all means, take the fallibility of experts seriously, but if you distrust communities of experts, you should be far more distrustful of podcast bros, influencers, contrarians, and politicians, otherwise you are simply demonstrating your own unseriousness.

The "rats leaving a sinking ship" metaphor doesn't make sense to me if used pejoratively. It'd be pretty fucking weird to stay on a sinking ship.
