Congrats to Omar, Gabriel, & Maria, alumni of @EAPZamorano, who completed visiting scholar programs with LSU AgCenter’s Drs. Boldor, Richards, & Baisakh, respectively. From ag engineering to plant pathology to plant genetics, there are so many opportunities for scholars to learn!

I'm looking for two PhD students for two different projects. One on genetic diversity of fungal plant pathogens on crops and one on evolution and diversity of resistance genes in wild tomato. More info here: phytopathology.uni-kiel.de/en/open-positi… Please retweet.

We published a diagnostic guide on aerial blight caused by Rhizoctonia solani AG1-IA, a common disease in the mid-south and the same pathogen also causes sheath blight on rice. Check it out at: apsjournals.apsnet.org/doi/10.1094/PH…

An important part of the process of determining resistance in a crop is the replication of infection. Given the weather changes, it has become difficult to get a consistent environment, and this FLS took about 27 days to develop symptoms (compared to 15 dpi as usual)

We published a factsheet on aerial blight and I have to highlight LSU AgCenter for how this look. Check this out and share it with growers that may need this information. lsuagcenter.com/~/media/system…

Why is Phytophthora so bad in Nebraska this year? I think plants were stressed by early season drought. Defenses were down. Then it rained and got cool. Pathogen spores waiting in the soil woke up and attacked the plants who were too busy gulping water to notice.
