Our first #GULP Lab lunch of 2025 🎇 had our very own James Tanner present his current work on using wav2vec2 for automatic stop detection. James explored variability in detection success depending on model type and the amount of training data. A great start to the year! 💪

Yesterday our PhD students Ryan Shaw-Hawkins (they/them) & Lucy Jackson were the invited speakers for UofG English Lang & Ling Research Seminar. Ryan and Lucy gave excellent talks on their current work & received wonderful feedback as they advance in their PhDs. We're proud of our #GULP team! 🙌

Today we had a fantastic #GULP lab lunch by Célia Richy, from Queen Mary University of London. Célia presented her PhD research on co-variation and linguistic coherence in Bordeaux French. Thank you so much Célia for your excellent talk, and best of luck for your viva! 🙌

For this week's #GULP Lab Lunch, we all presented our ✨ CV of Failures ✨ Grant & paper rejections? Unsuccessful interviews, bad reviewer and teaching feedback comments? From PhD students to staff, it was a great session where we celebrated all our journeys & had fun with it!

Today we were treated to an in person #GULPLabLunch by Ruohan from UCL on his research. In a beautifully sophisticated experimentalndwsign, Ruohan explored style variation in L2 speakers English due to perceived listener characteristics, such as ethnicity. 谢谢 🙌🧠

We had a fantastic #GulpLabLunch today from Han Shouting, who presented the incredible results from a multimodal analysis of stylised sajiao performances among Chinese gay influencers 📸 We cannot wait to see more from Han as she progresses with her PhD 😍🙌
